Going through the Storm.

Going through the Storm.

Text:Matt 14; 22-36

This text is a little long, but it needed to be here.

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray:and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them,saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said,Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid;
and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of  little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Then they that were in the ship came and worshiped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret. And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased; And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.Text:Matt 14; 22-36
The reason Jesus made the Disciples leave was because the people wanted to
make Him King. We would think that was a good thing but,the Lord knew
that their motives were not spiritual & that their purposes were out of God’s
will. Today many churches reach the crowd by programs, methods &
entertainment & so forth.

If you draw them in with food, you got to continue to feed them or they will
leave. Most folks don’t just come to worship; they come for many other
reasons. Like entertainment or to be seen.
If the disciples had stayed, they would have fallen in trap of the crowd;
because they did not understand the Lords plans either.
The storm in this story can be an encouragement to us when we face
difficulties in life. And there is a storm coming so get prepared.
Out in the woods where we work; we watch for stuff failing out of the sky.
We call them widow makers. It’s not the limbs that you see coming that hurts
so much.
But the ones you don’t see coming that cause the most damage. The same
way with Satan, he will try a blind side you so that pain will be more severe.
If we know the storm is coming we make the necessary preparations. When
we find ourselves in the storm, we can rest on several assurances.
Maybe God has allowed us to be in the storm. Listen; Is it easy to live a
Christian life? Certainly not, that’s why most people can’t do it!!!
I did not say they would not go to heaven, I just said most are not truly
dedicated to Jesus.
This storm came because they were in the will of God and not (like Jonah)
out of the will of God. Did Jesus know that the storm was coming?
Certainly! Did He deliberately put them into the storm? But they were safer in
the storm in God’s will than the folks on land with the out of God’s will
playing church.
We must never judge our security based on circumstances alone.
There are basically 2 kinds of storms in life. Storms of correction, when God
disciplines us & storms of perfection, when God helps us to grow.
Jonah was in a storm because he disobeyed God & had to be corrected. The
disciples were in a storm because they obeyed Jesus and had to be perfected.
Many Christians think that obedience to God’s will, produces smooth sailing.
But this is not true. Obedience gives us endurance because trust is faith in
action.
If we find ourselves in the storm because we have obeyed the Lord, we must
remember that He brought us here & He will take care of us!!!
As we travel through our journey in life there will be storms & we must
realize that Jesus is praying for us so that our faith will not fail & we can pass
the test
The church today is in the mist of a storm & yet we know that Jesus is making intercession for us!!!
You might have a burden, but Jesus knows what you are going
through & how you feel. Read Matt 11: 28-30

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
If you could see Him super naturally & know that He is up here at the altar praying for you now; would that give you the courage to endure the storm & do His will!!!!
He sees our need, He knows your fears, and He is in control of the situation.
Jesus will come to you; you don’t have to go to Jesus. Some time we feel like
we are in the desert & all alone.
Remember the story of the foot prints in the sand.
God is not somewhere far out in space where it takes light years for our
prayers to reach Him. God lives with-in. He walks with us!!!
Jesus always comes to us in the storms of life. He may not come at the time
we think He should come, because He knows when we need Him the most.
Jesus will not carry us when we are able to walk. Amen We must do our part.
He waited until the ship was as far from land as possible, so that all human
resources were gone. He was testing the disciples’ faith
If there is any way we can make the storm better we try to do it without Jesus.
Why did Jesus walk on the water? To show His disciples that the very thing
they feared was only a staircase for Him to come to them.
Often we fear the difficult experiences of life {what ever it might be}, only to
discover that these experiences bring us closer to Jesus.
Why didn’t they recognize Jesus? Because they were not looking for Him.
Had they been waiting by faith, they would have known Him immediately.
Fear & faith cannot function at the same time, because fear always blinds our
eyes to the presence of the Lord.
So why let them go out in the middle of the night in a storm. First of all the
sky was clear when they left.
A lot of times in live as we make decisions the sky is clear to start with but
we don’t plan on the storm coming our way!!!
The storms come so that we will learn to trust Jesus. Many run from the Lord
when pain & suffering comes or look the other way.
Before we criticize Peter for sinking, let’s honor him for his great
demonstration of faith. He put trust into action.
Anybody can sit in the boat & watch. But it takes a person of real faith to
leave the boat & walk on the water.
What caused Peter to sink? His faith began to waver because he took his eyes
off the Lord & began to look at the circumstances around him.
That’s what happens time after time with the folks I deal with. The storm
comes & the first things they do is take their eyes off Jesus.
Why doubt. If we have prayed about our problems leave it in the hands of
Jesus.
If we don’t the Devil will get into our head & make us doubt if Jesus is going
to really take care of us!! The only hope we have is to cry out to Jesus.
God allows certain things to happen so that we will grow in our faith &
knowledge of Jesus so that we can bring Him GLORY.
The storms of life are NOT easy, but they are necessary.
They teach us to trust Jesus alone & to obey His Word no matter what the
circumstances may be.
Faith is not believing in spite of evidence, but obeying in spite of
consequence. It might not always work out like we figured.
We may fail along the way, but in the end, God will succeed. Jesus & Peter
walked on the water together and went to the ship.
Some times it takes a storm for us to be able to see the Power of God. The
ship landed near Capernaum and there Jesus healed many people.
Did these people know that He had come through a storm to meet their
needs? No
We ought to be like the disciples, bow at His feet & acknowledge that He is
King of kings & Lord of lords!
Maybe you have been going through some storms; maybe you have taken your
eyes off the Lord.

Has your faith begun to waver? Jesus is saying COME. Come unto me all that labor & are heavy laden. I will give rest
