Is salvation gained by works,or by faith ?
This age old question always comes up when discussing salvation of the soul. Many have their own idea about salvation, but it is what the bible says that is important.
First, let Me start with things that are not about salvation.
(1)Being good does not save You.
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Romans 3:10-12
A person can never be good enough to save themselves from hell.
(2)Being a good member of a church does not save You.
Just because You belong to a certain church body this does not save You.There are many who would have You to believe,if You belong to a certain church,You will make Heaven Your home.
(3)Tithing does not save You.
Some believe if they are a cheerful giver,or a tithe payer, that is enough to ensure a place in Heaven.Tithing is a practice in Christian Churches where members give 10% of their earnings to the Church.Tithing is important to the upkeep of the church, this in no way has anything to do with the salvation of the soul.
(4)Water baptism does not save You.
Water baptism is not a step to salvation. In the Bible We see that baptism comes after salvation.
“While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?” The only way to receive the Holy Ghost is first one must be saved.Notice baptism came after the conversion of Cornelius.Acts 10:44-47 (KJV)
(5)Keeping the Law does not save You.
Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. Gal 5:4
For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
The law cannot save Your soul. This the reason Christ had to come.He would fulfill the law,in order that We could be saved by faith.
(6)Confessing Your sins to someone other than God does not save You.
The bible says that We confess our sins to the Lord.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness John 1:9
The Bible tells us that We are saved by the grace of God,through faith in Jesus Christ.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Eph 2:8-9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.Romans 10:9-13
Scripture could not be more clear, yet so many cannot understand.I don’t know if it is because of arrogance,or ignorance.
1.Rom. 3:28-30, “For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one.”
2.Rom. 4:5, “But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is reckoned as righteousness,”
3.Rom. 5:1, “therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,”
4.Rom. 9:30, “What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, attained righteousness, even the righteousness which is by faith.”
5.Rom. 10:4, “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”
6.Rom. 11:6, “But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.”
7.Gal. 2:16, “nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified.”
8.Gal. 2:21, I do not nullify the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly.
9.Gal. 3:5-6, “Does He then, who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? Even so Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness.”
10.Gal. 3:24, “Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we may be justified by faith.”
11.Eph. 2:8-9, “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not by works, lest any man should boast.”
12.Phil. 3:9, “and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith.”
