Why I left the Charismatics :

Concerning the Holy Spirit :
Introduction:
No doubt, If You are from the south,You have heard some type of sermon,or talk about the Holy Ghost (Holy Spirit). In most cases when one hears the word ,Holy Ghost, they automatically connect it with, speaking in tongues. Some actually believe the tongues are the Holy Ghost, and not a gift in itself, and salvation is always coupled with speaking in tongues. They do not separate the two. There are actually more than one gift of the Spirit, which can be found in 1 Corinthians 12;8-10,but for some reason tongues is the most coveted.

Some of My Friends, and Family ,have asked why I left the charismatic church. It wasn’t something I decided overnight. It was actually over a period of years, and sleepless nights,of long prayer and study.
This is not a debate about the gifts of the Spirit,I do not want to tell people how,and what to believe about the Holy Spirit, but after years of mental”spiritual”abuse,I had to choose, and here is My story.
As far back as I can remember,My family attended some type of
charismatic church.I was familiar to the typical worship in the charismatic denomination.I didn’t always understand, but thought this was the normal way of worship in every denomination, remember I was but a young impressionable child.
As I grew older,I started hearing things from the pulpit that seemed
strange, but dare not question the authority of the one delivering the
message, because that was just the way it was.We were rarely
encouraged to follow along in the Bible as the speaker would deliver
his spirited sermon.Because His (the speakers)word was all we
needed to hear, and believe. Here were some of the things that I heard that just struck me strange.
The message of salvation:
We would hear the normal things that most would consider the way to
be saved.Using Ephesians 2;8,9,John 3:16,Acts 2,and Romans
10.All the while maintain that salvation was by grace and not of
works,after receiving salvation,however there was either a but,or a
now. Let Me explain.
Sanctification:
After accepting Jesus and repentance, there was always a now.You now have to be sanctified. This required the person to go to an altar,to beg and plead, sometimes for hours, that God would somehow sanctify them, all the while not realizing the scripture tells us that We are justified by the blood of Christ.Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.Romans 5:9
This sanctification prayer somehow supernaturally made You cleaner
than what the blood of Christ did. This to my knowledge is still going on in these churches today. This is not scriptural, but is an internal doctrine teaching.
Seeking for the Holy Ghost:
After sanctification, now,we were then required to seek for the Holy
Ghost, which would be evidenced by speaking in an unknown
tongue. This is where My problem actually began. This is not a biblical
teaching, nor is it biblical requirement.I cannot tell You how many times I have heard someone quote,”the evidence of the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues.”To this day I have never found this phrase to be in the pages of the New Testament,no where. It was required however if You were to be accepted as a christian and a member of the “church.”
I also was told that if someone doesn’t speak in tongues ,they are not
saved, nor do they possess the Holy Spirit.Which is another non
biblical teaching.Ephesians 1:13 says,In whom ye also trusted, after
that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom
also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of
promise.
This is where I really ran into a problem with that teaching. How can I
be sealed by the Holy Spirit(Ghost)after I got saved ,if I don’t possess it
?
As I said earlier I do not debate with My friends and family about the
gifts of the Holy Spirit, but I will argue this point.
So please, stop telling people they have to speak in tongues to prove they have the Holy Spirit,it is not biblical, and it is a hateful thing to judge someones free salvation.
Also ,I was made to feel ashamed,or somehow inferior, and often pressured to seek for the Holy Ghost, just to speak in tongues.
This undue pressure is why many who were “raised’ in the charismatic
churches are leaving. I have talked to some that say that they were
ridiculed, and told that they weren’t saved.
Adding to the saving grace negates saving grace. It is a free gift, and not
of any kind of works.
So now You know why I left the charismatic denomination.
As I have repeatedly stated,I can’t and will not ,tell people how to worship or praise, and this is not meant to ridicule or try to embarrass anyone who believe this way. This is just my story.

What do the scriptures really say about Women being pastors?

In short, nothing. However this doesn’t mean scripture ever allows a woman to have authority over a congregation. The scriptures are very clear about the qualifications of the pastor and We will go through them one by one.

I have friends who believe women can hold the office of

pastor, and they tell me about it frequently. The odd thing
is,they never use scripture as authority. They use their
emotions and feelings on the matter. When I show them
scripture, where a man must be pastor, there are always an
abundance of buts. They have even stated, they do not care what Paul say’s,they are going to preach, and pastor anyway.

Scripture has plenty to say on the matter and that is what I
will use in this article.
This [is] a true saying, If a man desire the office of a
bishop, he desireth a good work.
In verse one,We see that desiring to be a bishop(pastor)is a
good work to desire. It is an important role that should
never be taken lightly
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one
wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to
hospitality, apt to teach;
In verse two We see 7 marks of the pastor.
a.Blameless:Not having a bad reputation,someone who
will be able to shepherd without his past being a problem
b.He must be a husband of one wife. Not having more than
one,or having concubines. We will study this in more detail
later.
c.Vigilant:keeping careful watch for possible danger or
difficulties.Able to stop problems before they become
uncontrollable
d.Sober:Not only to be sober from abstaining from
alcohol, but being sober-minded in right thinking.
e.Good behavior:
f.Given to hospitality.Treating everyone fairly and with
respect.
g.Apt to teach:Being able to teach scripture, and share
wisdom and knowledge with others
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre;
but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
Verse 3;
a.Not given to wine.Do not drink alcohol.
b.No striker:Non violent
c.Not greedy of filthy lucre,Love of money more than
God.
d.Patient:
e.Not a brawler:peaceable.
f.Not covetous.Not wanting what isn’t his.
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children
in subjection with all gravity;
a.Obedient children with His house under control.
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how
shall he take care of the church of God?)
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into
the condemnation of the devil.
a.Not a novice:Well studied,with experience in Church
business.
7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are
without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the
devil.
a.Good report:self explanatory
So here in 1 Timothy 3 We see the requirements and
qualifications of being a pastor.Every line was about men
and not women.
The one qualification that rings the loudest is ,He must be
a husband. As We who are followers of Christ
know,women cannot be a husband,and this
disqualifies them.
Nothing more can be said about the matter.
So the Bible has nothing in the affirmative to say about
women being pastors.Women do have a role in church, but not in authoritative leadership.
